Tony Thomas, Acoustic Death Machine, Kyle Matteson, Steve McPherson and Stook got together this week to talk about music, both that the local and national level. Among the topics are:
Plus Tony interviewed Lizz Winstead by phone, but the recording failed. Lizz is a Minnesota native and co-creator of The Daily Show. She’s in town holding auditions for a new reality TV show called Ready 2 Rock. They’re looking for people over 40 who still want to take one last shot at rock-stardom. She described the show as, “more Project Greenlight and less American Idol.”
READY 2 ROCK is looking first and foremost for music superfans from all rock genres. Some will be encyclopedic in their rock knowledge, some just enamored with chicks and partying. All bandmates must play instruments and some must be songwriters.
Two of them will believe they are undeniably the front man.
Auditions will take place at Java Jack’s, 818 W 46th St. in Minneapolis on October 10 from 5-10. This is an open casting call. Apologies to Lizz Winstead for not getting the interview recorded.

Steve McPherson and Kyle Matteson from Reveille Magazine stopped by to talk to Tony Thomas about the new online music magazine.
The Reveille Magazine Cast:
Steve McPherson started writing about music when he stopped trying to make it for a living. Since that time he’s written for HowWasTheShow.com, Pulse of the Twin Cities (where he served as the paper’s last music editor from 2005 through 2007), City Pages, and Skyscraper Magazine. He’s also co-editor of TheBottleGang.com and runs his own music blog, SignalEatsNoise.com
Andrea Myers is a writer and local music lover. In addition to Reveille, Andrea currently works as the editor of HowWasTheShow.com, is a correspondent for mobile music news company 80108 media, and freelances for various music publications. She has written for Pulse of the Twin Cities, Rift Magazine, City Pages, and Alarm Press.
Kyle Matteson is a local music blogger and webmaster extraordinaire. In addition to his invaluable music news updates on MoreCowbell.net, Kyle oversees ArcadeFire.net, Wilco fansite ViaChicago.org, and is active on what seems like nearly every music-related message board on the net.
Rob van Alstyne is the world’s tallest music critic. He got his start early, covering the red hot Albany music scene for his high school paper, and then graduating to work at Macalester’s Mac Weekly. His music writing has appeared in Pulse of the Twin Cities (where he served as music editor from 2003 through 2005), METRO Magazine, and Devil in the Woods.
Jim Walsh is a longtime Minneapolis music writer and appreciator. Jim has written for almost every publication in town, most notably the Pioneer Press, the Star Tribune, and City Pages, and is completing his first book, an oral history of the Replacements. After 20 years of writing, Jim recently returned to songwriting, performing around town under his pseudonym, the Mad Ripple, and hosting Hootenannies out of coffeeshop basements and backyards.
Tom Hallett wrote a weekly music column, ‘Round the Dial, for Pulse of the Twin Cities for 10 years. Following the demise of the Pulse, we were happy to invite Tom to continue his weekly column for Reveille.
